Eye Test At Home — If You Fail, See an Eye Doctor

Curious about your vision and need an eye test? This video guides you through several reliable at home eye tests, similar to those used in a clinic. Learn to assess your sight with an astigmatism test and a visual field test to understand “how good are my eyes.” We’ll also demonstrate using an amsler grid and a distance vision chart, providing practical insights into your eye examination from an optometry perspective.

In this video, I walk you through several at-home vision tests you can safely try on your own to better understand how your eyes are functioning between eye exams.

These tests can help screen for blurred vision, astigmatism, eye alignment issues, focusing problems, contrast sensitivity changes, side vision loss, and central vision distortion—but they are not a replacement for a comprehensive eye exam with an eye doctor.

Vision Tests Covered in This Video:

• Clock-Dial (Sun Dial) Test – screens for astigmatism
• Cover–Uncover Test – checks eye alignment and eye teaming
• Near Point of Convergence (NPC) Test – evaluates how well your eyes work together up close
• Contrast Sensitivity Test – measures how well you see in low contrast situations
• Peripheral (Side) Vision Test – screens for changes in side vision
• Amsler Grid Test – checks for distortion or missing areas in central vision (important for macular health)

I also show you how to accurately measure distance visual acuity from home, including:
• How to use an online calibrated eye chart tool
• How to use a physical eye chart designed for a 10-foot testing distance that you can purchase online

📌 Important: The eye tests in this video are for entertainment and education purposes only and does not replace a comprehensive eye exam. Always discuss symptoms and concerns directly with your eye care provider.
